health20-20.org : Alcohol's Effect on the Liver
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In one study volunteers consumed the equivalent of at least a six-pack of beer a day, along with high protein diets enriched in minerals and vitamins. After one "weekend" of drinking, fat accumulation in the liver was already detectable by chemical analysis. In another study, baboons were given an adequate diet, but had alcohol as 50 percent of their total calories. All developed fatty liver. In addition, after two to four years 30 percent developed cirrhosis.3

health20-20.org : Cardiovascular System and Alcohol
A variety of cardiovascular disorders have been associated with chronic alcohol use. These range from heart failure and sudden death to hypertension and stroke. In contrast to alcoholic cirrhosis where clinical and laboratory evidence readily leads to appropriate diagnosis, the relationship of the cardiovascular system to chronic alcohol use is more difficult to identify. The variation of organ...

Objective(s) The objective of this study was to determine the effect of aqueous extract of Origanum vulgare L. ssp. Viridis (ORG) on discrimination learning and long term potentiation (LTP) in CA1 region of the rat hippocampus. Materials and Methods A group of adult male Wistar rats weighing 275±25 g received aqueous extract of ORG (150, 300, 450 mg/kg/day) by intraperitoneal injection for one ...
متن کاملAlcohol ADME in Primates Studied with Positron Emission Tomography
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The sensitivity to the intoxicating effects of alcohol as well as its adverse medical consequences differ markedly among individuals, which reflects in part differences in alcohol's absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (ADME) properties. The ADME of alcohol in the body and its relationship with alcohol's brain bioavailability, however, is not well underst...
متن کاملEpigenetic Targets for Reversing Immune Defects Caused by Alcohol Exposure
Alcohol consumption alters factors that modify gene expression without changing the DNA code (i.e., epigenetic modulators) in many organ systems, including the immune system. Alcohol enhances the risk for developing several serious medical conditions related to immune system dysfunction, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), liver cancer, and alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Binge...

Silver toxicity and its fate in the environment are currently being debated and are important as challenging research topics. Even though there are several studies on its total content in soils, fractionation of Ag especially in calcareous soils has not been investigated. Therefore, to provide fundamental information on the chemical behavior of Ag in calcareous and noncalcareous soils, we studi...
